Woonona Slope Stabilisation Works
Construction of a MassBloc retaining wall at Woonona, NSW, to stabilise a failing slope adjacent to critical infrastructure and residential complex. Works included excavation, installation of precast concrete blocks, drainage improvements, and reinstatement of the surrounding area under strict geotechnical and environmental controls.
Unicivil delivered the Woonona Slope Stabilisation project for AEGIS, addressing a high-risk embankment failure threatening nearby assets and public safety. The site posed challenges due to steep terrain, restricted access, and proximity to sensitive infrastructure.
The scope included:
Excavation and benching of the slope to prepare for structural works.
Installation of a MassBloc retaining wall using interlocking precast concrete blocks for structural stability.
Incorporation of subsoil drainage behind the wall to manage groundwater and reduce hydrostatic pressure.
Backfilling and compaction to restore slope integrity.
Vegetation reinstatement and erosion control under environmental management plans.
Traffic and safety controls throughout the works to maintain operational continuity.
The project was completed within the scheduled timeframe, meeting geotechnical specifications and compliance requirements for slope stability and environmental protection.
